Statement on President Trump’s Executive Order

LANCASTER, PA — The Republican Committee of Lancaster County supports our President and lawmakers.

We are a nation of laws. Pursuant to The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952, also known as the McCarran–Walter Act, the President of the United States has the right to limit immigration from certain areas in given circumstances. Since 1952, Presidents from both parties have utilized this congressional authority. The current temporary suspension of travel from countries that are on the terror watch list should not have come as a surprise to anyone.

We certainly support the President and Congress to keep our country safe. With the number of terrorist attacks increasing throughout the world, the citizens of this country expect greater intention from its leaders to protect them from this threat.

The people of Lancaster County and this nation have spoken 12 weeks ago. Donald Trump won our county by a plurality of almost 47,000 votes (the 3rd highest plurality in the entire state of Pennsylvania), and won the Electoral College with 304 Electoral Votes.

Zealots are quick to forget that in December 2015, former President Barack Obama signed into law a measure placing restrictions on certain travelers from Iran, Iraq, Sudan or Syria. Only a couple of months later, Libya, Somalia and Yemen were added.

We respect people’s constitutional right to speak out and protest. This is the beauty that has been afforded to us by our founding fathers and what makes our nation great. However, President Trump campaigned on multiple promises to Make America Safe Again, and now he is fulfilling those promises.
