The Republican Committee of Lancaster County is currently located at 902 Columbia Avenue in Lancaster (across from the Clock Tower Apartments).
The Role
The Assistant to the Executive Director is responsible for assisting with the strategic implementation and plans of the Republican Committee of Lancaster County at the direction of the Executive Director (ED), Area Chairs and Executive Committee, and will report directly to the Executive Director. The Assistant to the Executive Director, while committed to the philosophy and ideals of the Republican Party, consistently strives to enhance the success of the Republican Party within the community. The Assistant to the Executive Director’s responsibilities will include, but are not be limited to:
Responsibilities
Fundraising (approximately 5% of time):
- Assist the Executive Director with overseeing existing, and organizing new, fundraising events and/or activities to increase party revenues
- Help create, maintain, and communicate an annual calendar of fundraising events
- Attend meetings in absence of Executive Director
Communications (approximately 15% of time):
- Assist the Executive Director with the Party’s digital media operations including website, Facebook, and twitter feeds and help coordinate social media campaigns
- Help oversee the Party’s communications programs including email blasts and electronic newsletters, assist with public relations, and serve as the spokesperson of the Party where appropriate
- Communicate and assist with the planning and execution of all meetings of the county committee, including attendance at all executive committee meetings
- Participate in community outreach to build and maintain relationships with Republican Party leaders, elected officials, key constituencies, grassroots activists, and allied organizations both in Pennsylvania and nationally
Party Organization (approximately 35% of time):
- Work with the Executive Director and Party Chairman to sustain and grow programs and service
- Support the organization’s strategic alliances and partnership
- Ensure performance goals are met and set
- Attend all meetings (Endorsement Convention, Re-Organization, Area Chairs, etc.)
- Participate in strategic planning for the Republican Committee of Lancaster County
- Represent the organization to the public, key stakeholders, and business partners in a professional manner
- Implement and contribute to the tactical / strategic plan of the County party
- Help oversee training programs for the county party including grassroots organizing, committee person, candidate, and GOTV
- Assist with the planning and implementation of the annual calendar of activities, including fundraising initiatives, special events, and the official administrative act
- Prepare materials for executive committee meetings, Area Chairs meetings, special elections, Endorsement Conventions, or organizational procedures
- In conjunction with existing Area Chairs, help maintain committee list and website for up-to-date committee members
- Maintain familiarity with party bylaws and alert parties regarding potential violations thereof
- Maintain an organizational list of all federal, state, and County-Wide current elected officials
- Assist with the oversight and implementation of the organization’s political and Election Day operations including nomination petitions, petition challenges, notary parties, Letters of Intent, poll watchers certificates, sample ballots, Slate Cards, Campaign Signs, get out the vote (GOTV) initiatives, Election night parties, and the like
- Help develop and coordinate the execution of an ongoing voter registration program in correspondence with the Pennsylvania Republican State Party (PAGOP)
- Encourage harmony and effective party coordination by all stakeholders
Administration (approximately 45% of time):
- Answer all phone calls and respond to all emails to the main account (contact@goplancaster.com) in a professional and timely manner
- Assist the Executive Director and help oversee interns and/or other staff members
- Assist with creating, managing, and maintaining relevant databases and training and other written materials
- Provide training and guidance for the interns and/or other staff members
- Delegate duties such as typing, copying, and scanning
- Assist the Executive Director in the hiring, termination, and training for staff and interns
- Manage administrative functions to ensure smooth and efficient operations of the organization
- Assist with creating, managing, and maintaining relevant databases and training and other written materials
- Coordinate gathering, analysis and dissemination of election and registration analytics
- Perform additional duties as requested by the Executive Director and Party Chairman
Requirements
Experience
The ideal candidate will have at least a bachelor’s degree in a political science, communications, government affairs related area, or equivalent experience and 1-3 years prior experience handling administrative functions. Experience working with political organizations and coalitions is a plus. Fluency in Spanish is a plus. Prior experience with the Republican Committee of Lancaster County is preferred.
- 1-3+ years of experience that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities for this position
- Experience developing Human Resource internal/external communications preferred
- Demonstrated strong writing ability, including (1) strong understanding of and adherence to usage and grammar skills, (2) ability to translate complex topics into understandable and actionable communications and, (3) ability to develop content for use across channels, including traditional print, video, online, environmental, and other media.
